The reemergence of Northwoods Alliance in Jan. of 2006 was inspired by the UPPCO Flowage issue. The Upper Peninsula Power Co. proposed to sell several thousand acres for development to Minnesota based Naterra, AKA Taylor Investment Corporation. We tracked that issue from the very first rumor and were well aware that the proposal was not compatible with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license agreements at Bond, Victoria and Prickett Flowages. NWA actively advocated for alternatives, and with success lands and Prickett and Victoria have been acquired by the Ottawa National Forest. We are currently supporting a 217 acre proposal at Victoria to protect the incoming river segment.
