Celebrate Local Wood   June 5, 7PM   Ottawa National Forest Visitors Center

One of many societal benefits of forest conservation is the sustainable supply of wood products. Our area forest lands enrich lives by providing clean water, wildlife habitat, recreational space and forest products serving human needs, including housing.

On June 5, join local conservationist Joe Hovel to discuss the local woods growing in our area forests. This program will cover benefits of area forests, sustainable uses of timber species, as well as the properties and specific uses of local wood, be it large scale industrial or hobby crafting.

Hovel is active with NWA, is president of Partners in Forestry Coop, authored the 2021 handbook Celebrating Local Woods and Alternative Forest Products, and was instrumental in Wisconsin achieving Act 208, commonly called the Local Lumber Use Law.

Celebrating Local Woods will be June 5 at 7PM (Central), and is part of the Thursday Evening Interpretive Program series at the Ottawa National Forest Visitors Center, Watersmeet MI.
